Enjoying Flying!
When I’m flying with my children, I know that there will be moments of distress, so I like to be as prepared as I possibly can. Children get bored easily, so I bring a “fun bag” that I allow them to pack themselves.
I choose a duffle bag, because it will be big enough to fit a number of supplies. They know what they like, and choosing what they pack makes them feel like they are part of the process and not just being forced to get on the plane.
I also bring a smaller bag of treats, some foods like candy or cookies, and some toys. I go to the dollar store prior to the flight and grab tons of little toys, stickers, crayons, coloring books, and other things that can keep them entertained as well. I use these treats to reward them for good behavior on the plane. About every half hour or so, I will grab my treat bag and ask who has been behaving, and they get so excited to see what I brought this time.
A great incentive is to bring a disposable camera, and promise to give it to the child at the end of the flight, if he or she behaves. I remind them during the flight what is waiting for them at the end of it.
