Shopping in New York
Find Great Bargains in New York City?
Shopping in New York is amazing, especially if you are looking for a
bargain. Below I have mentioned a few of my favorite bargain stores.
Do you have any suggestions for
New York City Shopping or bargain shopping?
Canal Street in Chinatown is a "must do" when we visit New York City. The
atmosphere and bargains are awesome. Here you will find all sorts of knock offs,
from watches to sunglasses to designer bags. You may be bombarded with
hawkers asking you if you are looking for handbags...."Louie? Coach? Gucci?"
Or "DVD, DVD".
They will gladly take you down rabbit holes in the back of their stores,
or to the back of their cars to sell you their knock offs (although we
have seen some that may have been seconds from the factory's). But remember,
buyer beware.
There are many times people return home to find out their
cool cheap watch doesn't work anymore! or that DVD is a crappy (and illegal)
camcorder version of a recent movie. Selling the goods is illegal which
obviously leads to corruption and no regulation. There are police raids often on Canal Street.
In fact in the years that I have been there the quality of knock offs for
designer bags has declined.
Please note that I am not advocating for you to follow a stranger to a back room
or car. Use your street smarts. I have never had an issue shopping here - but
you can never be too careful. Never go alone if you are planning on taking a
look at the "Back rooms".
We mainly shop for those cheap watches and jewelry. You will find great bargains
on T-shirts and souvenirs here as well.
After a morning of shopping on Canal street, we usually look for some lunch in
Little Italy, Mulberry Street .

Shopping in
New York at Century 21
Century 21 is supposed to be "New York's Best Kept Secret"
Maybe not so much
anymore, as more people know about it everyday. I have seen shoppers with
Century 21 bags up on 34th street and as far up as 5th Avenue. Something tells
me it isn't such a secret anymore.
It is a great find but extremely
busy. It is located down next to the World Trade Center memorial and
construction site. Brand name
items at bargain prices. I have actually seen people get into fights in this
store - so the bargains must be good! Go early morning in the week to avoid the
chaos.
It is located at 22 Cortlandt Street, you can take the E subway to the World Trade Center.
