10 Tips for Planning a Fun and Easy Road Trip

10 Tips to Planning a Fun and Easy Road Trip

SOHO New York

by Melanie and Warren
(Excellent Vacation Ideas)

SOHO New York is a great neighborhood to wander around, shop in and eat in.

We try to get there most times that we go to New York. In fact we found Montana's Grade 8 Graduation Dress at the Bloomingdale's in SOHO. There are the regular type stores like Victoria Secret and Old Navy, and there are many unique boutiques and specialty shops. There is even a Korean chain that Montana and I LOVED to shop in called Uniqlo. It is like a better quality Old Navy. It can get really busy though!

A restaurant that is always recommended to us, but we don't seem to get there is Baltazar Restaurant. Check out the reviews at TripAdvisor. We will definitely try it out next time!

Our New York City Travel Guide will give you more vacation ideas for Manhattan, so don't forget to check it out.

Here is a short video I found that will show you more about SOHO and what is great about it!

New York City Transit Museum

The New York City Transit Museum is a great and inexpensive way to see some history of the transit system and subways in New York City.

  • The New York Transit Museum is located in an old, renovated underground subway station. This museum was once a real subway station and was founded for the bicentennial in 1976
  • The most amazing about this museum is the collection of antique subway station cars
  • Kids will love running around in the subway cars and you won't have to worry about them getting hurt as they aren't moving! They will see the Blue Bird subway car that was named that because it went above ground, as well as below ground, and sometimes it traveled on a train bridge above the roads
  • There are opportunities for the kids to pretend to drive the buses, and you may even see a kids birthday party while you are there!
  • Located in Brooklyn Heights at the corner of Boerum Place and Schermerhorn Street - take the Subway to Court Street-Borough Hall station on the 2,3,4,5,R train or Jay Street - Metrotech station on the A,C,F or R train
  • Accessible for people with disabilities
  • Closed Mondays and holidays, and is open from 10 am to 4 pm on Tuesdays through Fridays and 11 am to 5 pm on weekends.
  • Entrance fee are $7 for Adults and Kids are $5 - not bad for a couple of hours of fun!

I know Warren would love to see this museum as he is an avid transportation fan! We will have to put it on the list the next time we are in one of our favourite cities - New York City!
