Toronto is a beautiful urban city and our hometown! People are always asking us what they should see and do when they come to Toronto. Our answer will vary depending on what time of year you are visiting and are you taking a family or romantic vacation?

Most people will prefer to visit in the summer months, where there is a lot to do, especially with the family.

The winter months however, also have their charm - if you are ok with cold and snow that is!

 

Some of our favorite Toronto tourist attractions for families:

  • Canada's Wonderland - great amusement park with lots of fun things to do for older and younger kids!
  • Canadian National Exhibition in August - A Toronto Tradition
  • Visit the Saint Lawrence Market and enjoy checking out the meat...then of course taking some home for dinner
  • Center Island - Picnics or riding bikes with older kids and Centerville for the young kids
  • Spending a clear day at the CN Tower - Sometimes you can see all the way to Rochester New York
  • Spending a cold or rainy afternoon at the Ontario Science Centre - don't forget to check out an IMAX movie
  • Royal Ontario Museum - You never know what cool exhibit is being showcased!
  • Walk around Chinatown and feel like we are back in Hong Kong
  • Take a Hop on Hop Off tour around the city - best way to see the city. I actually took my neice on the Duck tour around Toronto...it was a fun afternoon.
  • Take a day trip to Niagara Falls - one of the natural wonders of the world and spectacular to see

  • Go for dinner at the top of the CN Tower
  • Take a walk through Yorkville, especially during the Toronto Film Festival in September
  • Enjoy the many world class restaurants - some of our favourites are Ki and Harbour 60
  • Take in a Broadway Play
  • Skating and Hot Chocolate on a cold winters day at Nathan Phillips Square
  • Have a beautiful cozy dinner in Little Italy (We like Bar Italia!)

  1. Visit the CN Tower. This iconic symbol of Toronto and Canada and one of the top Toronto tourist attractions, was completed in 1976 and is one of the tallest towers in the world. The tower offers numerous attractions including the EdgeWalk, the Glass Floor, the Sky Pod, and the revolving 360 Restaurant.
     
  2. Watch a show. The Princess of Wales and the Royal Alexandria Theatres in the Theatre District show some of the worlds best Broadway shows running throughout the year. It is known as the third best theatre district in the English speaking world.
     
  3. Spend a day at the ROM. The Royal Ontario Museum is the biggest in the city. It has 40 galleries and over 6 million items in house. Their natural history and world culture galleries have very diverse exhibits.
     
  4. Ice Skate. Nathan Phillips Square, located in front of the city hall, has a skating rink that is popular to both tourists and locals. It is open 24 hours a day from November to March.
     
  5. Go to a hockey or baseball game. Hockey is a well-loved sport in Toronto, so make sure to book your tickets ahead (as they get sold out fast) before heading to Air Canada Centre to watch the Toronto Maple Leafs play. If hockey is not your thing, or you visit in the summer, you can go to the 67,000- seat Rogers Centre Stadium to watch the Blue Jays instead.
     
  6. Shop. Queens Street West is the place to find fashionable people and one-of-a-kind pieces. Honest Ed's is a great venue for cheap souvenir shopping. Don't miss out on the Toronto Eaton Centre!
     
  7. Visit Chinatown.  Head to Chinatown for a taste of Chinese culture. You will find a lot of shops and restaurants that offer their products and services at affordable prices. A great Toronto tourist attraction to visit!
     
  8. Experience a different kind of shopping adventure at the PATH. This complex below the streets of downtown Toronto stretches for more than 25 kms. The PATH has shops, department stores, offices, hotels and subway stations all interconnected.
     
  9. Try the big breakfast at Frans Restaurant. Consisting of 2 eggs, 2 sausages, 2 bacon, 2 pancakes, fries and toast, this meal will surely jump start your day.
     
  10. Chill in one of the bars on College St. Check out El Mocambo, a venue where bands like Rolling Stones and U2 have performed live and Sneaky Dees for some domestic beers and Mexican food.
