Hermosa Beach

We LOVE HB in California. We house-swap with another family who likes to visit NYC so all the beach toys are already there. We eat at Good Stuff on the Strand, bike the Strand and play volleyball - just like everybody else. This year we were invited to the neighborhood July 4 party and got to participate in the watermelon on wheels contest. Very fun!

Family Vacation in Denver Colorado

Whale Overview - Denver, Colorado

(Denver Museum of Nature & Science - photo from gregor_y's photostream)

The state of Colorado is a popular winter skiing destination, but Denver beckons year-round. The city has a number of interesting museums adored by the younger set: Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Colorado Railroad Museum, Denver Firefighters Museum, Forney Museum of Transportation, Museum of Miniatures, Dolls and Toys, and the Children's Museum of Denver, to name a few.

That's just the tip of the proverbial iceberg, though. Animal lovers will surely want to visit the Denver Zoo (the most popular cultural attraction in Colorado!), the Downtown Aquarium, Butterfly Pavilion and Insect Center, and Dinosaur Ridge in Morrison. Thrill-seeking kids will love Elitch Gardens and Water World. Sports fans can cheer on the Rockies at Coors Field, the Broncos, the Nuggets or the Avalanche. Plus, with the Rocky Mountains just a short drive away, this is the ideal destination for outdoorsy types.

Don't forget that you can also take some great day trips from Denver with your family. Some places to look into include:
  • Central City and Black Hawk to see these too mining towns oozing with history
  • Georgetown to see the Victorian town in the mountain valley - you will feel like you stepped back into the 1870's
  • Rocky Mountain National Park for the beautiful mountains. Hike with the kids or just visit the beautiful waterfalls.
  • Pikes Peak Country where you can visit the Air Force Academy, the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame, or the Broadmoor Resort - don't forget to see the Garden of the Gods - the 500 foot high red rock monuments make of sandstone.
