This cruise center was built by Carnival Corporation and and opened in 2009. It took 2 years to build and is catered to the cruise passengers of Carnival and Princess Cruises when visiting Roatan Honduras.

 

Mahogany Bay opened with a Disney feel to it in the winter of 2009. They even built a "Magical chair Lift" to take their guests to the beach if you don't want to walk up the hill. See more Tips below.

You can go Zip Lining, spend some time at the beach and then go Fat Tuesday's for a drink. Most people say that you don't need to leave the port if you don't want to. It sounds like they have created another "private Island".

There are many things to do or not to do on in Roatan Honduras while in Port. We visited Roatan from the Norwegian Jewel, and didn't get to see this area of Roatan. We really enjoyed our time there. See some of what we did on Roatan Island.

 

 

Below I have listed some excellent ideas for your day there.

• Take one of the many shore excursions offered around the Island
• Go to their beach via the chair lift
• Have a drink at the bar at Fat Tuesdays
• Go duty free shopping
• Rent a cabana on Mahogany Beach

I found these videos on YouTube so you can see the chair lift and get a feel for Mahogany Beach and Bay. I did not take these videos, nor have we visited this area of Roatan.

I have gathered some tips and tricks for your visit here from different sites including Cruise Critic and Tripadvisor and these are the tips I found:

• If you are paying for food or drinks, the tax is included. So any "tax" or extra charges are most likely a gratuity - Check your receipts before paying.
• If you are looking for the "real" Roatan and not a cruise line version of it, then go to Tabyana Beach or leave compound and get a tour from a local taxi driver
• The zip lining is better in other areas of the island (some of the best we have done)
• If you are looking for a cabana experience you can rent one for about $225 per cabana - check with your cruise line
• If you haven't tried SNUBA, they offer it here - It's quite fun
• For scuba diving choose a trip to the West End of Roatan
• Some people compare Mahogany Bay to Coney Island
• It's expensive to get a taxi from this area, so book a private tour before you get there, then you will have transportation all day
• Where beach shoes in the water as the beach can be rocky
